Big news this month… After reading Paul Blackburn’s fabulous new book (Thanks Curly) “Resolving the Money Riddle”, Geoff & I have looked at our end of year goals and decided to move them forward 6mths. We’re both sick of being “on call” to our Roofing Business 24/7 as we have been for the last 8yrs and we are giving it all away to get our life back.
Some of us really need to take drastic measures to remove ourselves from a situation and break the pattern and cycle of the rat race in our lives. This is our way of doing just that.
Those of you who know us personally know that we have 3 gorgeous kids, between 4 and a half & 6mths, and we are very aware that they won’t be small for long. As we were planning for the end of 2009, we are now packing down for our big trip around Australia.
We’ve purchased for ourselves a vehicle – it’s a big old Leyland council bus decked out with beautiful natural edge timber bench tops in the kitchen and dining, two Bedrooms & complete bathroom & enough storage space for all the family gear we’ll need.
Here’s a photo of our new home on wheels;

Isn’t it awesome? We think so. Just by chatting with people we know, we have already inspired some others to join us on the adventure. Still with some packing down to do, we plan to be hitting the road around May/June.
I’ll be keeping you informed as we explore this amazing country of ours, with regular updates of our adventures.
Maybe a trip round Australia could be the best thing for you and your family. OR maybe there is something else you could make room for in your diary so that you’re enjoying the moment with those you value most, every day of your life. Otherwise, what are we doing?
If you want to be inspired by Paul Blackburn for yourselves I do have access to a special offer on his next round of mental toolboxes. I can get you there for 10% of the ticket price;

Today's Success Tip comes from a teacher & great friend of mine Paul Blackburn

One of the biggest challenges I ever faced in my own life was in 2003 when I was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer and was informed that I had three to five years to live. That was a big challenge for me. I was so frightened that I considered suicide. Funny really – I was so afraid of dying that I was thinking of ending it all. It didn’t take long to dispense with that idea though when I considered what effect it would have on my two teenage daughters. That was a legacy I just wasn’t prepared to leave them with, so I set about considering my options and it appeared that there were only two possibilities: I would die or I would live. So I drew a line down the middle of a page and stared listing what I would do in either case.
What if I die?
- Meditate each day in order to give me peace of mind for the difficult times ahead, the opportunity to reconcile myself, and as a means to practices my spirituality.
- Get as physically fit as possible to give myself the best fighting chance.
- Spend as much time as I could with my wife, Mary, and our girls.
- Live with vibrancy and vitality (suck every bit of juice out of life). This one wasn’t just for me – I realized that living with joy and exuberance would be my kids’ final memories of me.
What if I live?
It wasn’t obvious until I put pen to paper, and you’ve probably guessed it already, but it turned out to be the same list. Talk about a life changing experience!
After writing that list I went on to live the rest of my life (and I still am). As I believe that all illness is the result of emotion I dived into finding out what I might have buried deep in my subconscious. Given that the prostate gland is so closely involved with the sexual function for men, I concluded sexual guilt would be a good place to start looking. I found a target-rich environment created by the weird feelings that involved conflict in my upbringing (no sex before marriage) and hitting my early twenties during the sexual liberation years in the 1970s. I discovered I had plenty of shame and guilt lodged under a veneer of rationalization about sex being fun and okay with everyone involved at the time. So the adventurous romp that was made to be ‘cool’ in my mind was actually not good at all – it conflicted with the values that had been repeatedly instilled in my subconscious when I was young. My daily meditations consisted of 20 to 40 minute sessions, working with feeling and removing those repressed emotions. I also converted to a grain-free diet (some guy won the Nobel Prize in the early 1930s for discovering that cancer thrives in a glucose-rich environment). I worked less and played more. To fund it I put my prices up, something I should have done years before.

Everything's Amazing and Nobody's Happy...
What changes we have experienced in the past 30yrs. As I approach my 30th this year, I can’t help but reflect on where I am, where I’ve come from and the experiences of my life to date.
In a comic way, this can actually make you think about how to take things back to the basics and rethink what matters. How many times (each day) do we get annoyed at a slow internet speed, a senior driver in the car in front of us, a mobile phone that drops out momentarily, food that takes more than 1min to heat in the microwave… the list is endless.
Enjoy… and please… Be HAPPY!
